Overview: The relationships between a Panel, Data Folders and Select Files has already been discussed in the Overview section (Select Files ). QuantiCALC expects the listmode data to be in particular formats. There is a detailed discussion on these assumed formats in our first tutorial (Selecting Files ). The bottom line of these discussions is that if there are multiple Tubes in your Panel, QuantiCALC expects the stored listmode files to be ordered in the same way as defined in the Panel.

If your application has listmode data that is not organized in these well-defined packets, QuantiCALC may not be the best program for this type of application. We suggest using other listmode processing software that does not expect the data to be ordered.

TIP: If you are in the process of constructing a Protocol for a particular application, you might consider deleting all the Data Folders in the Protocol before saving it. If you don’t, when you run the Protocol later, QuantiCALC will attempt to load the current selected Data Folder. If it no longer exists on your disk, you will receive a warning and then have to navigate to a valid listmode file.

Navigating to specific Data Folders: Use the upper-left tree control to navigate to specific locations on the storage medium. Double-clicking a Folder node, either expands or contracts the tree outline of its contents. Clicking on the node, transfers its contents to the lower-left list control. These two controls do a bit more processing than normally found in typical file navigation controls. If a Folder node contains files, the program will automatically "package" them into valid Data Folders in the lower-left list control. You can tell whether the program has done this additional processing by inspecting the ICON used in the lower-left list control and the name of the Data Folder. If the ICON looks like a package with a ribbon around it and the name ends with "…", you will know that this additional processing has taken place. It is this "package" feature that enables QuantiCALC to efficiently package a list of listmode files into valid Data Folders (File Packaging Mechanism for Data Folder Selection ).

Open: Select the Open button to obtain the Open Files dialog box. Navigate to the location of the saved batch Data Folder list and click on Open to read in a stored list of Data Folders. On the Windows and NT platforms, the file has a ".fls" suffix. On the Macintosh platforms it has a "SFLS" type.

Save: Select the Save button to obtain the Save Files dialog box. If you have spent a significant amount of time navigating and selecting Data Folders for batch analysis, this option ensures your time is not wasted. If anything should happen during the analysis, you can always go back and load the list of selected Data Folders with this option.

Properties: If no item is selected in the main and lower left-hand list controls, the Properties button will be enabled. If you select Properties, there is only one property that can be edited: File Name Sort. Normally QuantiCALC presents the files in their natural order on the storage medium. Under some rare circumstances, the order of these files may not be properly alphabetized which mitigates the use of QuantiCALC’s automatic Data Folder file loading process. If the files are found not to be properly alphabetized, check File Name Sort to alphabetize the files prior to selection. QuantiCALC does not do this by default because if there are hundreds of files, this alphabetizing process can be very time consuming.

Add: When one or more Data Folders are selected in the lower-left list control, this button enables. Selecting Add, moves the selected Data Folders into the main listbox. Another way of adding Data Folders is to double-click on them in the lower-left list control.

Delete: If one or more Data Folders in the main list control are selected, this option deletes them from memory.

Edit: If a Data Folder in the main list control is selected, clicking on the Edit button displays the Edit <Folder Name> dialog box (Edit Folder ). The same dialog box can be displayed by double-clicking on a particular Data Folder in the main list control.

OK: Click on OK to put away the Edit Files dialog box.
